Tartar (calcified plaque) forms regularly near the ducts of salivary glands in the mouth. These are in the area of the lower incisors and upper back molars. The fluid from the glands has important protective and digestive functions, but leads to poor oral hygiene to diseases.
Certain components (inorganic substances) of the saliva accumulate in the soft plaque of the teeth. It`s a hardened by a chemical reaction and it creates the well-known tartar.
The calcified plaque discolors over time through the components of the food and prevents the cleaning of the tooth and provides an optimal breeding ground for bacteria. The limited dental hygiene in the affected area is the cause of numerous diseases of the tooth and the periodontium. It occurs not only in adults, but also in children.
Soft coverings can be removed well in the early stage with the toothbrush (floss). As soon as the soft ones have changed into the solid coverings, only the professional cleaning of the teeth with special instruments in dental hygiene will help.
A daily oral hygiene with toothbrush and floss, in combination with a regular professional tooth cleaning are therefore obligatory for a healthy oral hygiene.
